salt dough biscuits

These are salt dough biscuits that I have recently made for my friends daughters. I have put them in a pretty box for each of the girls, with a label attached that says "DO NOT EAT. pretend you have a Bakery or Cafe".  I personalized them by writing "Nancy's & Beatrice's home made biscuits".

Art Journal

I've started an art journal, probably a little late in the year I know but nevertheless I will continue with it. My 12 year old daughter has started to work on one as well. My journal will have a motivational theme to it, with inspirational quotes, positive thoughts and ideas, dreams, aspirations and achievements. Life of course isn't always easy and positive, it can be tough and overwhelming, but keeping focused on encouraging and reassuring thoughts I intend to illustrate events, views, perceptions and experiences in my daily life.

Alison's Poppies

My cousin wanted a painting to hang in her living room.
I love the colours which the American artist Shirley Novak uses in her Poppy paintings. I showed my cousin Shirley's work and she loved it, so I painted these two canvases resembling Shirley's style. I used Acrylics which I find so versatile. They now hang up on Alison and Steve's living room wall and the subtle colours compliment the rest of the room.

Tea pot Zentangle

I am totally hooked on Zentangles. I use my fabulous Karismacolor soft pencils to add a touch of colour. I like simple black or white modern frames, they work perfectly with this style of drawing.

drawings of portugal

These are two drawings inspired by Portugal that I drew with pen and soft coloured pencils. They are two in a series of illustrations that I am doing and the main theme is "Different countries". Having lived in Portugal for 3 years, I particularly enjoyed creating these two pictures.

Can't stop drawing!

I just want to draw all day, every day. That wouldn't be wise though because my house would become even messier! I think I need to train myself to only need five hours sleep at night and then I would have more hours to draw during the day.

Creativity is..

This is another illustration that I have drawn for my sister. My mum has asked me to do two illustrations for her to put on the wall outside her apartment door, so I had better start working on them.

Sunny Flowers

The cold, dark winter months of our English weather certainly makes me miss the blue skies and bright sunny days of  Portugal. This painting is the first of a series that I am working on that have been inspired my time living in the Algarve and later in Cascais, near Lisbon.

Sunset & silhouette of tree

My Aunty and Uncle asked if I would paint them a picture to go in their living room and they particularly wanted warm colours with reds and oranges. They found a painting on the Internet that they liked and asked me if I would do something very similar. I don't know what medium the original was painted in but I used acrylics.
I find it good practice to recreate art that I like and admire because I always learn something from the process. It makes me look more closely at all the different colours that the artist used to create a certain effect. I certainly can't copy the painting exactly and that is not what I aim to achieve. There is something about sunsets and silhouettes that I love and I shall definitely be doing some more.
