Positive affirmations and art for children
Affirmations are positive statements about who we are and what we want to become. It is self-talk that helps us to feel better and create positive attitudes about what we want to experience.
Through art children can create their own personal affirmations.
Every thought you think and every word that you say is an affirmation. Nearly 90 % of our thoughts are negative.
It is important that children from an early age learn to think positively. we can challenge these negative thoughts and beliefs by replacing them with positive ones.
If a child finds it difficult to mix with other children confidently then a great affirmation would be;
"I make friends easily" or "I enjoy playing games with my friends". Say them like they already exist because when we say things in the present we start to create the outcome now.
The artwork will be a visual reminder for children of happy and positive thoughts which will help them to focus on what they want to achieve and experience.
Children can use any media to create their picture. Paint, coloured pens, photos and magazine
cuttings can be glued on to card. They need as many wonderful thoughts about themselves as well!
The photos here are pictures that My daughter and I made. I painted a lioness with the words "I am brave", and my daughter chose the words "I am loved" and "I am beautiful".
When children are feeling angry or upset, reading and saying these positive affirmations can help them to focus on what they DO want. It steers them away from thinking about what they DON'T want.
I can do this
I like myself
I am a winner
I am smart
I feel happy
These are just a few of many positive affirmations.

A new Chapter
I have been in Portugal with my family for nearly two and a half years. It is certainly a beautiful country but its not one in which me or my husband can truly move forwards in our careers. Therefore, in about three weeks we will be returning to England and amongst the usual anxieties of moving, is of course the excitement of going home and seeing family and friends.
This picture is of Cascais in Portugal, where we have been living for the last 12 months. I used coloured pencil, which is my favourite medium.
Once I am back in England, then I will reproduce this picture with others, as prints and cards and will add details of prices and where to purchase them from.
